Variety has promoted Rachel Seo to Social Media Editor, recognizing her considerable contributions to the growth of the brand’s editorial activity across major social media platforms.
Seo joined Variety in July 2022 after working in event marketing for ViacomCBS’ VidCon live media division. She’s been a pillar of the team that has boosted Variety‘s social media footprint to more than 12 million total followers as of this month across TikTok, X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and other outlets.
“Rachel’s understanding of editorial growth and engagement with Variety’s audience is only matched by her great attitude and willingness to embrace new ideas,” said William Earl, editor of Variety.com. “We’re excited to elevate her role in leading our social media strategies as we further expand our footprint and take our editorial work to new creative heights.”
In her previous role as social media coordinator, Seo crafted as many as 50 posts per day for the range of digital, print, video, podcast live stream and live events published and produced year-round by Variety. She helped craft social media launch strategies for cover stories and the industry’s annual tentpole events including the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, major film festivals and Variety‘s Power of Women and Actors on Actors franchises. Seo has also penned numerous news and feature stories for Variety. She takes the reins of editorial social media from Katcy Stephan, who was promoted earlier this month to film reporter.
Prior to VidCon, Seo worked as a freelance writer focused on covering the intersection of religion and culture. She is a graduate of UC San Diego, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in literature and writing.
