The Software Report is pleased to announce The Top 25 Cybersecurity Executives for 2024. Cybersecurity is uniquely universal, with every company from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies needing to stay apprised on the latest advancements that will enable them to safeguard their data and information systems against cyber threats. The individuals being recognized this year are at the forefront of cybersecurity, devoting themselves to the field and remaining one step ahead of the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape.
Among this year’s awardees, we’re pleased to honor Gil Shwed, widely considered to be the inventor of the modern firewall, and Founder and CEO of Check Point Technological Services. He shepherded his company into becoming a $2 billion annual revenue powerhouse. Another innovative cybersecurity expert is the founder and CEO of Fortinet, Ken Xie, who has developed three companies that played an influential role in shaping the cybersecurity industry. Meanwhile, Christina Cacioppo, through her unicorn company Vanta, has automated security and compliance systems.
While there are numerous industry professionals having an impact on the cybersecurity sector, these awardees have emerged and solidified themselves as innovative leaders while garnering the respect and high praise from their peers. 1. Nikesh Arora
Company: Palo Alto Networks
Title: Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Nikesh Arora is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Palo Alto Networks, the world’s leading cybersecurity company. During his four-year tenure, Arora has led the company through a major transformation, solidifying it as the partner of choice for enterprise organizations and governments around the world.
Before joining Palo Alto Networks in 2018, Arora served as president and chief operating officer of SoftBank Group Corp. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at Google, Inc. as a senior executive, where he was senior vice president and chief business officer, president of global sales operations and business development, and president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Arora also served as chief marketing officer for the T-Mobile International Division of Deutsche Telekom AG, and chief executive officer and founder of T-Motion PLC, which merged with T-Mobile International in 2002.
Arora currently serves on the board of Compagnie Financière Richemont S.A., a public Switzerland-based luxury goods holding company. Previously, he served on the boards of SoftBank Group Corp., Sprint Corp., Colgate-Palmolive Inc. and Yahoo! Japan, among others. Arora holds an MBA in business administration from Northeastern University, a master’s of science in finance from Boston College, and a B. Tech in electrical engineering from the Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University.
 
2. Ken Xie
Company: Fortinet
Title: Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
A cybersecurity expert and successful entrepreneur, Ken Xie is Founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Executive Officer of Fortinet, a leading vendor in the cybersecurity industry. Under Xie’s leadership, Fortinet pursues its goal of “securing people, devices, and data everywhere.” With a focus on the convergence of network and security, Fortinet’s broad portfolio of solutions spans network, infrastructure, edge, cloud and IoT, serving approximately seventy percent of the Fortune 100 companies as well as governments around the world.
Fortinet is Xie’s third cybersecurity company that has played an instrumental role in shaping the industry. His second company, Netscreen, developed the industry’s first ASIC and dedicated hardware systems for high-performance firewalls and VPNs. It was acquired by Juniper Networks for $4 billion in 2004.
Xie earned a master’s of science degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University and bachelor’s of science and master’s of science degrees in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and board member for both the Cyber Threat Alliance and the Center for Cybersecurity for the World Economic Forum.
 
3. George Kurtz
Company: CrowdStrike
Title: President, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder
With more than 30 years of experience in the security space, George Kurtz is an internationally recognized security expert, author, entrepreneur, and speaker, with an extensive history of driving revenue growth and scaling organizations across the globe. He currently serves as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Co-Founder of CrowdStrike, a cutting-edge technology company utilizing the world’s most advanced cloud-native platform to provide next-generation endpoint protection and threat intelligence. His entrepreneurial background and ability to commercialize nascent technologies have enabled him to drive innovation to market throughout his career.
Kurtz’s prior roles include founder and CEO of Foundstone, a worldwide security products and services company that had one of the leading incident response practices in the industry. When McAfee acquired Foundstone in 2004, Kurtz was appointed McAfee’s senior vice president and general manager of risk management, eventually becoming McAfee’s worldwide chief technology officer and executive vice president. Kurtz graduated from Seton Hall University with an undergraduate degree in accountancy.
 
4. Gil Shwed
Company: Check Point Software Technologies
Title: Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Considered to be the inventor of the modern firewall, Gil Shwed is an influential industry leader who co-founded Check Point Software Technologies in 1993. He serves as the company’s CEO, and under his leadership and guidance, Check Point Software Technologies has solidified itself as a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions globally, and is now a leading vendor in GigaOm’s inaugural Radar for Cloud Network Security. The report acknowledges the advanced threat prevention and network security offered by Check Point CloudGuard Cloud Network Security, which delivers enhanced security measures, preventing cloud threats, and bolstering confidence for businesses transitioning their workloads to the cloud. Additionally, Schwed has authored several patents, including the company’s Stateful Inspection Technology.
Shwed has received numerous accolades for his individual achievements and industry contributions, including the Israel Prize for his contributions to the Israeli tech industry and philanthropy, an honorary Doctor of Science from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, an honorary Doctor of Science from Tel Aviv University, the World Economic Forum’s Global Leader for Tomorrow for his commitment to public affairs and leadership in areas beyond immediate professional interests, and the Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate Award for his innovative contribution to business and technology. Shwed is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Youth University of Tel Aviv University, a Tel Aviv University Governor, and founder of the university’s Check Point Institute for Information Security.
 
5. Jay Chaudhry

Title: Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and Founder
Jay Chaudhry has a history of introducing visionary innovations to market in the security technology sector, most recently as Chief Executive Officer, Chairman, and Founder of Zscaler, a California-based cloud platform that offers web security, automated threat forensics, and malware protection for businesses. Zscaler’s broad set of cloud native Zero Trust security solutions help companies consolidate point security products, simplify IT operations, and improve security and user experience. Under Chaudry’s leadership and guidance, Zscaler became a public company on March 16, 2018.
Since founding his first company, SecureIT, in 1996, Chaudhry has built a proven track record as an accomplished entrepreneur, creating numerous successful companies including AirDefense, CipherTrust, and CoreHarbor. Chaudhry leverages more than 25 years of security industry expertise, including engineering, sales, marketing, and management experience with leading organizations, such as IBM, NCR, and Unisys.
Chaudhry earned his MBA in marketing, master’s of science in computer engineering, and master’s of science in industrial engineering—all from the University of Cincinnati. He earned his Bachelor of Technology in electronics engineering from IIT BHU Varanasi, and completed the Executive Management Program from Harvard Business School.
 
6. Marten Mickos
Company: HackerOne
Title: Chief Executive Officer
Marten Mickos is the Chief Executive Officer of HackerOne, a leading vendor in hacker-powered security, connecting companies to an assembly of ethical hackers, in order to find and fix system vulnerabilities. The result is a greater sense of security for companies, and the internet as a whole. With clients such as Yahoo, Twitter, Uber, and the Department of Defense, HackerOne hackers catch exploitable vulnerabilities, allowing companies to stay ahead of threats.
Formerly, Mickos was SVP and GM of Hewlett-Packard’s Cloud Business, CEO of Eucalyptus, EIR at Benchmark Capital and Index Ventures, SVP and GM of the Database Group of Sun Microsystems, and CEO of MySQL AB. Mickos graduated with a master’s of science degree from Aalto University.
 
7. Hervé Tessler

Hervé Tessler is the Chief Executive Officer of Noventiq, a leading global solutions and services provider in digital transformation and cybersecurity. The company enables, facilitates, and accelerates digital transformation for its customers’ businesses, connecting over 80,000 organizations across all sectors with a vast selection of best-in-class IT vendors, in addition to its own services and solutions.
Tessler is a global senior executive with decades of international experience in US publicly traded companies, bringing a wealth of experience to his role at Noventiq in building diverse, high-performing teams across multiple geographies and functions. Tessler is well-versed in driving results and leading initiatives on a global scale to transform international operations and company-wide functions. In his previous position as executive vice president and president of international operations at Xerox, Tessler played a pivotal role in shaping Xerox’s strategic direction while concurrently leading operational teams in more than 150 countries. Prior to this, Tessler held several other senior management positions in emerging markets and at corporate headquarters. Tessler earned a master’s in law from Paris-Pantheon-Assas University.
 
8. Stu Sjouwerman
Company: KnowBe4
Title: Chief Executive Officer
Stu Sjouwerman is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of KnowBe4 Inc., provider of the world’s largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform. KnowBe4, Sjouwerman’s fifth startup, became a public company under his leadership in April 2021. It was built on the premise that the human element of security was being seriously neglected. Sjouwerman decided to help organizations manage the problem of cybercrime social engineering tactics through new school security awareness training. In late 2022, he facilitated KnowBe4’s acquisition by Vista Equity Partners.
Sjouwerman is an information security expert with more than 30 years in the IT industry. He co-founded his prior company, Sunbelt Software, an anti-malware software company, which received multiple Inc. 5000 awards. Sjouwerman is the author of four books, his latest titled “Cyberheist: The Biggest Financial Threat Facing American Businesses.”
 
9. Hugues Foulon
Company: Orange Cyberdefense
Title: Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer
Hugues Foulon is the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Orange Cyberdefense, one of the world’s leading telecommunications operators. Under Foulon’s leadership, Orange Cyberdefense brings together 3000 experts from a multitude of security professions to monitor their network and spot the first signs of any cyber attacks.
Foulon began his career in 1994 at Générale des Eaux (Veolia Group) where he became director of the companies “Monégasque de Télédistribution” and “Monégasque des Eaux”. He later entered the world of telecoms when he joined Monaco Telecom (part of Vivendi Group) in 2000 as deputy CEO in charge of support functions. In 2005, he joined the Orange Group as finance director for the consumer mobile sales division. In 2007, he was appointed financial control director for the marketing and innovation division and held several finance positions including director to the Group’s deputy CEO and CFO of Orange MEA. Since 2018, he has served as director of strategy and cybersecurity activities of the Group and CEO of Orange Cyberdefense.
Foulon graduated from École Polytechnique with an undergraduate degree in math and physics.
 
10. Matt Cohen

Title: Chief Executive Officer
Matt Cohen is the Chief Executive Officer of CyberArk, the global leader in identity security. Centered on privileged access management, CyberArk provides the most comprehensive security offering for any identity – human or machine – across business applications, distributed workforces, hybrid cloud workloads, and throughout the DevOps lifecycle. Cohen has a proven track record as a results-driven leader, playing an instrumental role in driving the execution of CyberArk’s strategy, spearheading its transition to a subscription business model and leading a comprehensive program that transformed the operations of the entire company.
Previously, Cohen was EVP of field operations at PTC, where he developed and executed the company’s go-to-market strategy across sales, customer success, services and support, product and field marketing, and demand generation. He played an instrumental role in executing the organization’s transition to a subscription model and the rapid development and roll out of PTC’s cloud strategy. During his eighteen-year tenure with PTC, Cohen held various leadership positions across customer success and global services where he built the customer success function, transformed the global services business, helped the company successfully enter new technology markets, and helped scale the organization into a greater-than-one-billion-dollars-in-Annual-Recurring-Revenue company. Cohen holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Harvard University.
 
11. Eduardo Mônaco

Eduardo Mônaco is the Chief Executive Officer of ClearSale, an innovative fraud solutions company combining advanced technology with a passionate team of seasoned experts that understand every client’s unique needs while investing in their long term success. After nearly four years leading the company as COO with a focus on the Analytics IT, Products, Open Innovation, Customer Success, and Data teams, Mônaco assumed the position of president-director at the end of last year. He boasts a strong track record, having spearheaded many successful strategic projects and operational development.
Mônaco began his career at some of the largest Brazilian retailers and ecommerce companies, structuring departments and heading up projects that delivered operational excellence and elevated customer experiences. As CEO of ClearSale, he leads the company with a focus on nurturing innovation, risk mapping, and leveraging opportunities. Mônaco graduated from Universidade de São Paulo with a Master of Business Administration in Business Management and from Universidade Estadual de Campinas with an undergraduate degree in statistics.
 
12. Pam Petrow

Title: President & Chief Executive Officer
Pamela Petrow’s career at Vector Security began over 40 years ago, and after a series of promotions that included senior vice president of the central stations and information services group and executive vice president, she is now the President & Chief Executive Officer of the fourth-largest electronic security company in the United States. ​​Vector Security® has protected people and property by providing intelligent security solutions tailored to the needs of the customer for more than 50 years.
Petrow has held leadership positions in the Pennsylvania Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (PBFAA); Electronic Security Association (ESA); the Monitoring Association (TMA), formerly the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), executive committee; and is the past President of TMA International. She is involved with the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials – International and received its President’s Award in 2009 for her outstanding contributions to the electronic transmission of signals between central stations and 911 dispatch centers. In 2014, she was presented with an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Award in the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia program. In 2006, Petrow graduated from the prestigious Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
 
13. Ning Wang

Title: Chief Executive Officer and Board Member

14. Adam Geller

Adam Geller is CEO of Exabeam, an influential cybersecurity company that delivers AI-driven security operations, and was the first to put AI and machine learning in its products to deliver behavioral analytics on top of security information and event management. Prior to his role as CEO, Geller was chief product officer at Exabeam where he led product strategy, product management, research, engineering, and business development.
For more than 20 years, Geller has worked across multiple security domains, including network security, identity and access management, encryption, data protection, and security assessment and risk management. Prior to Exabeam, Geller was senior vice president of product and engineering at Palo Alto Networks, responsible for the VM-Series virtualization platform, the secure access service edge (SASE), and cloud access security broker (CASB) services of Prisma Access and SaaS. Geller has an undergraduate degree from Cornell University in industrial and labor relations, and maintains both the CISSP and CISM security industry certifications.
 
15. Hari Ravichandran

Title: Founder and Chief Executive Officer

With over 40 approved or pending technology patents to his name, Ravichandran was recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the most powerful CEOs 40 and Under in 2014 and 2015. Ravichandran holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s of science in computer engineering from Mississippi State University.
 
16. Hitesh Sheth
Company: Vectra AI
Title: Chief Executive Officer
Hitesh Sheth is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Vectra AI, a platform that delivers integrated signal across public cloud, SaaS, identity, and data center networks in a single platform, making the company a leader in hybrid attack detection, investigation, and response.
Previously, Sheth held the position of chief operating officer at Aruba Networks. Sheth joined Aruba from Juniper Networks, where he was EVP/GM for its switching business and prior to that, served as SVP for the Service Layer Technologies group, which included security. Before working at Juniper, he held a number of senior management positions in the switching organization at Cisco, including running its metro ethernet business. Prior to Cisco, he held executive and engineering management positions at Liberate Technologies and Oracle Corporation. He started his career as a unix programmer at the Santa Cruz Operation. Sheth holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin.
 
17. Zack Butcher
Company: Tetrate
Title: Founding Engineer
Butcher was one of the earliest engineers on the Istio project at Google, sitting for multiple terms on the project’s Steering Committee, and co-authored Istio: Up and Running. Now, in his current role as founding engineer at Tetrate, he works with some of the largest enterprises in the world to adopt Envoy and Istio. He works actively with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on Next Generation Access Control and co-authors the series of NIST Special Publications defining the standards for microservice security and zero trust for the US Federal government.
During his time at Google, Butcher also worked across the Google Cloud Platform on its central resource hierarchy, service management, identity & access management systems, as well as Google’s internal mesh that Istio draws from. Butcher received his bachelor’s degree in software engineering from Auburn University.
 
18. Christina Cacioppo

Title: Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Stanford graduate Christina Cacioppo is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Vanta, a leading trust management platform that helps simplify and centralize security for organizations of all sizes. Vanta helps thousands of companies manage risk and security with real-time monitoring and reports, called “trust reports.” Founded in 2018, Vanta has customers in 58 countries with offices in Dublin, New York, San Francisco, and Sydney. Through her dedication and leadership, Cacioppo built Vanta into a $1.6 billion dollar unicorn.
Previously, Cacioppo led product management for Dropbox Paper, helping bring it to market. She graduated from Stanford University with a master’s of science in management science and engineering and an undergraduate degree in economics.
 
19. Serpil Hall

Title: Head of Fraud Prevention
Serpil Hall leverages her 20 years of experience in financial crime and fraud prevention to deliver client-centric and innovative solutions, as Head of Fraud Prevention at Celebrus. In her current role, she manages internal and external relationships with diverse stakeholders, including IT, business, product development, product marketing, and external partners, to ensure the highest standards of quality and performance.
Hall’s vast experience boasts a proven track record of leading and executing complex projects in fraud product development and change management, fraud and compliance risk assessments, and fraud audit and compliance for global and UK banks, along with contributions to industry-leading initiatives such as the Payments Strategy Forum, PSD2, and Senior Manager Regime. Her impressive background also includes working with some of the world’s largest global banks, airlines, and merchants on reducing both internal and external fraud. In 2022, Hall was recognized as Cybersecurity Woman of the Year by the Cybersecurity Excellence Awards. She graduated from the University of Brighton with a degree in business, economics and finance, later earning an MSc in Criminology, Security, and Risk Management from the University of Leicester. She also has a certificate in Fraud Examination from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
 
20. Kris Nagel

In Nagel’s vast experience, he has held senior leadership positions in venture-backed and public companies, from pre-revenue to $4.5B in annual sales and from early funding to in excess of $10B in market capitalization. Prior to Nagel’s role at Sift, he was CEO at Ping Identity, where he led all of the market-facing functions including R&D, product management, marketing, sales, customer success, professional services and technical support. Nagel graduated with his MBA from San Jose State University, and from Penn State University with an undergraduate degree in management information systems.
 
21. Danny Jenkins
Company: ThreatLocker
Title: Chief Executive Officer
Under the guidance and leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Danny Jenkins, ThreatLocker has become a leader in endpoint protection technologies. ThreatLocker allows companies to have complete control of their networks, offering a streamlined process of requesting and granting permission to users on business computers. Danny Jenkins began his professional career in 1997, where he first got his start as a computer engineer at Netsoft. Following this role, he went on to Kinetsys Ltd, before eventually rising to become CEO and CTO at Enable Technology Services / Sirrustec, his most recent position prior to joining ThreatLocker.
 
22. Balaji Yelamanchili

Title: Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer of ThreatConnect, Balaji Yelamanchili brings more than two decades of experience as an operating executive and investor in high-growth software companies. ThreatConnect enables threat intelligence operations, security operations, and cyber risk management teams to work together for more effective, efficient, and collaborative cyber defense and protection. With ThreatConnect, organizations infuse ML and AI-powered threat intel and cyber risk quantification into their work, allowing them to orchestrate and automate processes to get the necessary insights and respond faster and more confidently than ever before.
Previously, Yelamanchili served as EVP and general manager of Symantec’s Enterprise Security Business Unit. Prior to Symantec, he oversaw business analytics and enterprise performance management products at Oracle as senior vice president. He also held executive positions at EMC Corporation, Documentum Inc., and Rational Software, now part of IBM. Yelamanchili holds a master’s of science in engineering from the Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge and an MBA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
 
23. Rob Behnke

Title: Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Rob Behnke is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Halborn, an elite, globally-recognized, and award-winning cybersecurity company for blockchain organizations. Halborn serves as a reputable partner to continuously assess an organization’s most vital assets, saves time in the development lifecycle, and provides world-class cybersecurity consulting and assessments.
Behnke is a multi-disciplined entrepreneur, growth hacker, and decade-long bitcoin fanatic. In his multi-industry career of founding and scaling startups, he grew distribution of his CPG company from 0 to 10,000 store shelves, founded and managed a niche iPhone app for musicians that eventually garnered one million lifetime downloads, and led a blockchain marketing agency to seven figures in revenue in less than a year. Behnke graduated from Rider University with his MBA in management and entrepreneurship, and an undergraduate degree in management, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
 
24. David McGuire

Title: Chief Executive Officer
David McGuire is the Chief Executive Officer of SpecterOps, a company that provides adversary-focused cybersecurity solutions to help organizations understand how threat actors maneuver against them, so they can successfully defend against advanced attacks. SpecterOps replicates adversary tradecraft, hardens systems against the attack cycle, and helps detect current advanced threat actor activity. McGuire specializes in building enterprise adversary-focused assessment teams, which have performed thousands of engagements for large private-sector organizations and major government agencies.
McGuire has extensive experience in conducting highly specialized, large-scale adversarial operations against a variety of targets. In addition, he has built several training courses focused on red team operations methodologies.
McGuire was a senior technical lead for the National Security Agency Red Team, providing mission direction through numerous large-scale operations. McGuire graduated from the University of Washington – Michael G.
